Both campuses took part in special assemblies this morning in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. day which is on Monday. The HS students had the honor of hearing Dr. Kelly Miller Smith, Jr. speak. Dr. Smith’s father played a significant role in the desegregation of schools here in Nashville, TN. Dr. Smith spoke on the power using words as a tool for unification instead of division, a theme that was very much a part of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr.’s message. Dr. Smith currently serves as pastor of First Baptist Church Capital Hill in downtown Nashville.
On the Red Gables campus, the assembly was comprised of songs by the concert choir, a special song by the Pre-1st students, and a presentation by the 5th grade. The assembly was narrated by Siona Kalil and Miles Douglas. The pictures and video below will give you an inside glimpse into the assembly.
