This week, the Ensworth Devon Farm campus continues their awareness of eating disorders and healthy body image during “National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.”
Earlier this year, the parents association held a seminar for middle and high school students called “Healthy Body, Healthy Self” which discussed the effects of eating disorders and encouraged students to pursue a healthy body image in regards to food and exercise. Speakers included Meredith Howell, Ensworth Fitness Nutritionist, and Tiffany Phillips and Seaneen Brown of the Renfrew Center.
Additionally, during the nutrition unit, high school students engaged in open discussion about media messages on body image and how this can have some affect on the development of eating disorders and self-esteem issues.
Yesterday, the discussion continued as Tiffany Phillips, an eating disorder specialist, returned to EHS for an assembly on fighting eating disorders. She educated students on the causes and signs of eating disorders and encouraged them to reach out for help if they, or anyone they knew might be suffering.
The assembly ended with a musical performance by juniors Sam Flora and Gracie Johnson.
