Senior Elam Mangum shares how the high school is partnering with Toms Shoes to help make a difference.
TOMS at EHS…
Toms is a business that was started by Blake Mycoskie after traveling to Argentina in 2006. On his trip he realized the need for shoes in third world countries and decided to start a company whose motto would be ONE FOR ONE. It was then that Toms was established. Since then, in addition to shoes Toms has also began to sell sunglasses and books, which are also part of the ONE FOR ONE movement.
The Ensworth High School Service Club is looking forward to starting up its annual spring Tom’s events. To kick off the project the club will be selling Toms Tuesday through Friday this week. Students will receive the shoes they order in time for prom. Students will also have an opportunity to decorate the shoes they buy at a Style Your Soles Party.
On April 10th, all students will partake in the nationally acclaimed barefoot challenge. School rules will be modified so that students will be allowed to go barefoot to raise awareness for those who are not blessed with shoes. We are looking forward to this project that will get the entire school involved.
The Community Service Club is a student-led organization that provides the opportunity to provide service, build character and develop leadership. It is designed to give students the opportunity to serve their community by sharing their talents and abilities. The entire focus of the organization is on volunteerism, while teaching students how to organize projects and learn more about themselves and others through service to our communities.
