The 3rd Graders had a very special opportunity this week as they served as Junior Docent’s at The Hermitage. Webster’s Dictionary defines docent as “a person who conducts groups through a museum or art gallery.” The Hermitage’s Junior Docents are very special children who have been selected to serve as a group to perform as “junior tour guides.”Upon arrival, the students were given short scripts to memorize about the location they would be placed and 1800’s period appropriate outfits. The students took turns greeting and giving information to all the guest that were visiting while they were there.
When the students weren’t speaking they were touring the grounds and mansion to learn even more about one of Tennessee’s most famous citizens and further compliment their study of TN History. The students all really enjoyed speaking with so many visitors to the Hermitage and were amazed to meet people from as far away as New York and Washington.
