The author sets out on a grueling pilgrimage to one of the most sacred of the world’s mountains, an insurmountable white cone rising from a barren plain in Tibet, Mt. Kailas. Thubron is an Englishman who is aging and childless, and has just lost his mother who was the last surviving member of his family. His pilgrimage is one of consolation. His journey is short but filled with danger. He encounters the Chinese authorities who are jittery because the 50th anniversary of the Dalai Lama’s flight into exile has just passed, and he faces the perils of the thin air where the mountain reaches one pass that has an elevation of 18,000 ft. However, he persists in his journey meeting various other pilgrims along the way, all with stories of their own. This is an incredible book, beautifully written and for those who love adventure and a good story.

A wonderful book based on her 2010 TED talk, one of the top ten most viewed talks in conference history. This book focuses on the power of wholehearted living, through courage, compassion and connection. She emphasis the importance of vulnerability, meaningful work, leaning into guilt and shame, and authenticity. This book is for anyone who has ever thought “DID I JUST SAY THAT OUT LOUD??” or doesn’t understand why everyone dresses up to go to the grocery store. Brene has the ability to capture in writing what everyone else is secretly thinking.
